A Solo Piece For a Flamenco Dancer
Work in progress

Old flamenco styles, live electronics & visuals come together in an explosion of rhythm around the body of dancer Eduardo Guerrero in a new flamenco creation, presented by the Dutch Flamenco Biennial as a prelude to the sixth edition of the festival, which runs from 13 through 29 January 2017. A ‘work in progress’ performed live for the first time on Friday 25 November 2016 at 8:30pm in
De Kapel of Hotel Arena in Amsterdam.

Dramaturge and director Mateo Feijóo from Madrid developed a fascination for ‘The Dancer Eduardo Guerrero’, when he worked with him in the spectacular performance Bosque Ardoro by Rocío Molina, which he directed. Feijóo: 'In all his sinews Eduardo breathes the flamenco tradition, while at the same time showing strong drive for renewal and looking for new flamenco forms. With this body, this "corpus" of paradoxes I want to explore the possibilities of a brand new flamenco language in a contemporary soundscape and visual space.'

Feijóo challenges the young dancer from Cádiz to place his feet as a - percussion -  instrument in a landscape he has never set foot in before. The traditional zapateado - the flamenco foot rhythms -  launches into a stirring dialogue with the electronic music of musical artist and performer Dr. Kurogo; the ‘pure flamenco body’ is followed live by video artist Tomoto and its movements editedon the spot. Eduardo Guerrero's driving flamenco energy pulls the audience into a magical world where the ancient art of flamenco is embarking upon a new life.

This Solo Flamenco piece is a unique total flamenco experience for Eduardo Guerrero that puts all the senses on a knife edge.
