Alalá - Remedios Malvárez
Spain, 2017 | 80 min. | Eng. subs
“Alalá” means “joy” in the Caló gypsy language. It is the starting point for director Remedios Malvárez’ venture into Las Tres Mil Viviendas, a deprived area of Seville. This notorious neighbourhood, once plagued by drugs and alcohol, has undergone a real transformation into a multicultural community, with a small flamenco school offering children hope and new opportunities. Flamenco helps the residents to learn to appreciate each other’s backgrounds and to understand life.
